Cockroaches

You have to get used to them here, and normally you just see the odd one if you get up in the night, but a few days ago I went into the drawer where the tin foil lives and saw three big crunchy brown cockroaches scatter. I pulled the drawer out and found two, and eggs. That was it. Armed with cockroach spray I started to pull out the drawers. Cockroaches ran for their lives as I hunted them down, honestly I was more scared of them. I found a newly hatched group of tiny babies, eggs and adults. Having taken the cupboard apart and sprayed everything I went to bed and googled how to get rid of cockroaches. Borax, banned in Europe, was recommended. I learnt that they can live without their heads for a week, they can eat through paper and food wrappers, and they can lay up to 36 eggs at a time. That night I woke up at about 2am and stepped outside my bedroom (I’m on the ground floor) there were several cockroaches on their backs in the final death throes. Over the next three evenings I scrubbed the inside of the cupboards and drawers with bleach finding more roaches and eggs, we washed everything that was inside and I’m hoping that the war is won for now. They are the silent flying types, the biggest I’ve seen is about 4cms, keep your fingers crossed!!

  1. Hi Abi I relied on my maid to murder them!! When I moved into one house I thought the floor covering was spotted with a pattern until they all ran out under the door. All the best and keep well. What no French Bed Bugs? Love John xx
