I am on my way back to the UK.
Whilst I was on the journey back from Campeche we had an email from Head Office to say that they were closing the Mexico base, and giving us two weeks to get everything shut down. Things have gone back and forth since then, decisions made and then changed, then changed again and it was been pretty stressful for the team. My Visa ran out today so I took the opportunity to have a week, after finishing work, to spend time with the friends I have made. I was so blessed to have a few dives with my lovely friend Cetti and her team, and I drank a lot of margaritas.
Now I am at Cancun airport waiting for my flight home. It has been an amazing two years. I am very grateful to have had this incredible opportunity, and aside from my lack of traveling around Mexico (my big trip was going to be this year!!) I have made the most of the opportunities that have arisen. I have made some amazing friends for life and have learnt so much. I love living in the sun, and being able to dive without a wetsuit, and swimming with sharks and rays and all the other beautiful creatures in the Caribbean.
A lot of people I have worked with for the last 2 years have sent such lovely messages and I am proud of the work I have done here and the relationships I have built. I will definitely be back in some capacity, but for now I am open to new opportunities, suggestions and connections, particularly for remote jobs so that I can travel a bit before I get my house back (I didn’t have enough notice to give them notice!). Having successfully project managed in Mexico, navigating Government agencies and local fishing cooperatives with my basic Spanish, I feel like superwoman and I am ready for the next challenge!!
Salud!!
